Jane Skingley paints semi-abstract seascapes and landscapes in oils. Her mainly large scale paintings focus on the mood evoked by the sea. Jane is interested in the emotional response we get from a visit to the seaside, whether on a summer’s day or during a storm. Jane works in her studio from photographs and sketches taken during trips and holidays. Working in oils, Jane builds up layers of colour to achieve richness and depth. The paintings are produced instinctively, evoking mood and atmosphere rather than a search for realism. Paint is applied by brush, hand, palette knife and even by flicking. Each painting takes weeks to complete. |

East Anglian based painter Garry Pereira paints atmospheric and extremely intricate seascapes and landscapes. Before painting a large canvas, Garry will often paint a series of small square studies on location, which are then used as references for the final piece which is painted in his studio. Garry uses some quite traditional methods, mixing his own oil glazes and washes, giving the work a rather soft and contemplative quality. He is a prolific painter and exhibits regularly in the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States. |

Elizabeth Morris is a printmaker. her original prints are etchings, produced in limited editions and printed on heavy 300gsm somerset paper. For each edition she works on a copper plate, covering it with a wax ground and drawing into it with a steel ‘needle’. she then immerses the copper in acid so that each drawn mark is etched deeply into the metal and will hold ink for the prints that will be rolled through her heavy press. From the initial ‘on the spot’ sketches, through the work on the copper, to the final proofing & printing of the edition they are entirely her own work. Liz is based on the picturesque Mersea island on the blackwater estuary in Essex. Boats of all kinds, fish, birds and pebbles abound, and these, and stories, often biblical ones, form the starting off points for her work. |
